Let's talk security blankets!

I always suggest parents bring their little ones security blankets, or lovies, if they mention that their little one has one. Toddlers may even want to hold them in their pictures and that is perfectly fine! It often makes them feel more comfortable and it’s an important part of their life at the time.

I think sometimes we as parents focus on getting these perfect family pictures and forget that allowing our little ones to be themselves is what often times makes our family pictures so perfect. The purpose of family pictures are to capture your family as it is now even if that may include an old loved on security blanket.

I myself am a mommy to a little one who is very attached to his "Bum". Bum is a silky bunny blanket. My little one, Wyatt, couldn't say bunny when he was little and that is how Bum got to be named Bum. I allow him to be in our family pictures and any pictures for that matter. Bum hasn't made them into all our family pictures but close! Honestly, it makes me happy that he is in our family pictures. Wyatt will only carry his Bum around for so long before carrying him around will be an old memory. I'll miss these days but I'll always have these pictures to remember him with his Bum.

So please know, when I suggest letting your little ones brings their security blanket (or toy, lovey, ect.), that I'm not asking you to let something be in your family pictures that I wouldn't myself.
