An Afternoon to Remember | Rocklin Extended Family Session

There’s something so special about photographing a family you’ve worked with for years. I’ve had the honor of capturing memories for this sweet crew for over 7 years now, and when they reached out about doing an extended family session for Grandpa’s 80th birthday, I was all in.
The only challenge? The session had to take place at 1pm. If you’ve worked with me before, you know I schedule all of my outdoor sessions in the evening before sunset—when the light is soft, warm, and oh-so-dreamy. But between family flying in, a birthday barbecue, and pool plans, we didn’t have the flexibility to wait for golden hour.
Instead, we found a beautifully shaded spot in Rocklin and made it work. I honestly can’t remember the last time I photographed a session that early in the day! I let them know the images might look a little different than what they’re used to from me, but they were completely okay with that—and I’m so glad they were.
Because you know what? I think these turned out absolutely beautiful. The light filtering through the trees gave us a soft, almost magical glow. We had laughter, big group hugs, silly toddler moments, and so much love. It was relaxed, full of life, and all about the connection that brought them together that day.
I love that we were able to document this milestone for their family.
