Golden Hour Iris Farm Family Session | Sacramento Family Photographer

Some sessions just feel meant to happen, even if they take a little longer to come together.
We had originally planned to photograph this sweet family at the iris farm last year during bloom season, but unfortunately they ended up getting really sick right before their session. Instead, we pivoted and photographed their family session at the McKinley Rose Garden, which turned out beautiful in its own way. But I was so excited that this year we finally got to make the iris farm session happen.
And honestly? It could not have worked out more perfectly.
The light that evening was absolutely unreal. Soft, golden, dreamy light poured through the trees the entire session and created the most magical glow around this family. It was one of those nights where every direction you turned looked beautiful.
The iris farm during bloom season is already gorgeous on its own, but paired with this kind of golden hour light, it felt almost surreal. The flowers were blooming everywhere, the pathways were glowing, and everything came together so naturally.
I loved the mix of family portraits, mother-daughter moments, and individual portraits we captured throughout the gardens. Their outfits worked so perfectly with the warm spring tones, and the whole session had such a relaxed, joyful feel to it.
One of my favorite things about family sessions is that they do not need to be overly complicated to feel meaningful. Beautiful light, genuine connection, and a gorgeous location are sometimes all you really need.
I’m honestly so happy we finally got to create these images for them after missing iris season the year before. Sometimes waiting a little longer makes the final session feel even more special.
The iris farm continues to be one of the most requested spring locations around Sacramento, and it’s easy to see why. The blooms only last a short time each year, which makes these sessions feel extra magical and limited.
If you’re looking for a Sacramento or Roseville family photographer for spring flower sessions, natural outdoor family portraits, or golden hour photography, I’d love to help you plan something beautiful.
