There is something incredibly special about extended family sessions. They slow everything down and remind us what photography is really about. Connection, history, and the people who shaped the family we know today.
This extended family session at a nature reserve in Citrus Heights was exactly that. Simple, timeless, and full of meaning. Multiple generations gathered together, surrounded by trees and soft fall light, creating images that will only grow more valuable as the years pass.
Grandparents play such an important role in families, and yet they are often the ones missing from photos. They are usually behind the scenes, loving on everyone else, rarely asking to be photographed themselves. These sessions are such an important way to honor them and preserve their place in the family story.
During this session, we focused on a mix of full family portraits, smaller groupings, and individual moments. Grandparents with their grandchildren, couples who have built a life together, and siblings standing side by side. These are the images that future generations will look back on and feel connected to.
Nature reserves are one of my favorite locations for extended family sessions. They offer neutral tones, beautiful depth, and a peaceful setting that works for all ages. The wooden bridge and greenery gave us a timeless backdrop that will never feel trendy or dated.
If you have ever thought about booking an extended family session, this is your sign. These photos are not just for today. They are for your kids, your grandkids, and the generations that come after you. Time moves fast, and photographs are one of the few ways we get to hold onto it.
If you are looking for a Sacramento family photographer who specializes in maternity, family, and extended family sessions in Citrus Heights and surrounding areas, I would love to help you document your family story.
