Spring Botanical Garden Family & First Birthday Session | Sacramento Family Photographer

Spring sessions at the botanical gardens are always beautiful, but this session felt especially magical with the tulips still blooming everywhere we turned.
This sweet family wanted a combination of family portraits, milestone images, and a simple first birthday cake smash all in one session, and it came together so perfectly. The soft spring colors mixed with the golden evening light created the dreamiest backdrop for documenting this season of life together.
I’ve also been loving the teddy bear trend for first birthday sessions lately. It feels so timeless and classic. Teddy bears are one of those babyhood details that never really go out of style, and they add the sweetest touch without taking attention away from your little one.
We kept the cake smash setup simple and natural with soft blue and neutral tones to fit beautifully into the outdoor setting. One of my favorite parts of outdoor milestone sessions is that babies have space to move, explore, and just be themselves. This little guy had the sweetest smiles and so much personality throughout the entire session.
Of course, we also made plenty of time for family portraits. I always encourage families to treat milestone sessions as more than just “baby photos.” These seasons go by so quickly, and documenting your connection together matters just as much.
The botanical gardens in early spring are easily one of my favorite locations around the Sacramento area. Between the blooming tulips, soft greenery, and gorgeous evening light, it’s hard to go wrong here.
If you’re looking for a Sacramento or Roseville family photographer for milestone sessions, cake smashes, or updated family photos, spring is one of the most beautiful times of year to plan your session.
