Spring Botanical Garden First Birthday Session | Sacramento Family Photographer

This sweet botanical garden session was the perfect mix of family moments, milestone portraits, and the happiest little cake smash.
Spring at the botanical gardens is always beautiful, but this year especially felt magical. The pink flowers were blooming everywhere, the open grassy fields were lush and green, and the little wooden bridge tucked into the gardens added such a sweet touch to the session.
I absolutely loved the sunflower theme this family chose for their daughter’s first birthday portraits. The adorable sunflower blanket used during her cake smash was actually handmade by her mom, which made it feel even more meaningful and personal. Details like that always end up being some of my favorite parts of a session because they hold so much love behind them.
And honestly, her cake smash could not have gone more perfectly. Some babies want nothing to do with their cake, but she fully embraced it and gave us the cutest reactions and expressions the entire time.
One of the biggest honors of this job is getting to watch families grow over the years. I’ve photographed multiple milestones for this sweet family, and I always love catching up with them. There is something incredibly special about being trusted again and again to document these important seasons of life.
I also have to mention dad absolutely rocking that pink sweater. I loved how soft and springy the family’s color palette felt against all the blooming flowers and greenery throughout the gardens.
Sessions like this are exactly why spring is one of my favorite times for outdoor family and milestone photography around Sacramento. Between the flowers, soft evening light, and warm weather, it creates such a dreamy backdrop for documenting your family naturally.
If you’re looking for a Sacramento or Roseville family photographer for milestone sessions, first birthday cake smashes, or updated family portraits, the botanical gardens in spring are always such a beautiful option.
